Welcome to Biological Microscopy
Welcome to the exciting field of biological microscopy. Our website is devoted to serving microscopists with information on equipment and news articles relating to the subject of biological microscopy. A biological microscope can come in several versions. One type of biological microscope is a low power stereoscope. This type of microscope is used for low power microscopy and is best used for under 90x and often under 40x magnification. Another term for it is a dissecting microscope, or dissection microscope, as in the biological sciences, it is often used for dissecting frogs, worms, and insects. The cost of a low power biological microscope depends on several factors.
One factor is if it has zoom optics or fixed magnification optics. The zoom magnification is much prefered and gives a continuous magnification over a large zoom range. However, the zoom stereoscope is more expensive than a fixed magnification version. The other main type of biological microscope is the high power compound light microscope. This is the more commonly used equipment for biological microscopy. It usually has four or five compound objectives that are on a rotating turret. The magnification level of a compound microscope is much greater than in a stereoscopic microscope. Specimens on glass microscope slides can be viewed with ease under the different magnifications. This is useful in high school and university level science classes for the study of biological specimens.
These types of microscopes are also ones used in medical clinical laboratories for checking for bacteria and parasites in the blood as well as in other biological fluids. If you have a need for either type of biological microscope, please contact us for details about how we can provide you low cost biological microscopy equipment.
